Sticker Board to Track Progress

Hey all! Get excited for the SDG Summer 2020 Challenge, which begins so soon! To track your progress as you work through each of the individual challenges, here is a sticker board that you can use. Save it and print it out, and each time that you complete a challenge, place a sticker on that corresponding space on the sticker board.

Explanation of the Challenges

Wondering how a specific challenge connects to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals? You've come to the right place!  Below, you'll find an explanation on how each of the challenges connects back to an SDG.  Additionally, you'll find some additional resources that have more information on the Sustainable Development Goals. GOAL 1- NO POVERTY  This goal aims to eradicate extreme poverty by 2030.  Extreme poverty is defined as people living on less than $1.25/ day.  Even though the global rate of poverty has been decreasing since the 1990s, 10% of the world’s population still lives in extreme poverty.  These challenges help get you involved in decreasing local poverty.  Donating your old items to a shelter or charity store can help support people in your community who need it most.  Volunteering your time can also help support people who need it.  Volunteering at a homeless shelter or to babysit will also give support to those who need it....

Adult Level 2 Challenges

Welcome to the youth challenges for the #sdg2020challenge!  Here, you'll find a list and explanation for each of the challenges.   Volunteer to babysit a child at a local crisis center so that the child’s mom can go to a job interview. Cook a meal and share it with your neighbor or someone in your area who needs it. Exercise for 60 minutes with a friend two times this week! Donate a subscription to an age-appropriate science journal . Generate a list of women-owned or run businesses in your area and share it on social media. Encourage people to make purchases from these businesses. Make sure your detergents do not have phosphates. Go through your home and replace all lightbulbs with LED bulbs. If applicable, join a local worker’s union. Download an app ( link here ) and submit 3 complaints about the quality of infrastrucutre when you see them.   Welcome to the adult level 1 challenges for the #sdg2020challenge!  Here, you'll find a list and explanation for each challenge.  Volunteer at a homeless shelter. Bonus if you bring your friends along with you. Donate 10+ non-perishable food items to the food sharing initiative in Irkutsk . Cook a meal using olive oil instead of butter. Clean out your book collection and donate age-appropriate books to local public schools. Read this article and have a discussion with your family on the important contributions of women in Russian history. Share your favorite! To promote sanitation, wash your hands before every meal and after you use public transportation. Go through your home and unplug any cables from outlets when you are not using them. Teen Challenges

Welcome to the teen challenges for the #sdg2020challenge!  Here, you'll find a list and explanation for each challenge. Donate your unused clothes to a charity store . Donate 10+ non-perishable food items to the food sharing initiative in Irkutsk . Journal every night this week and/or take 15 minutes out of each morning to do some yoga or stretching. Ask local libraries about their needs and start a book drive. Identify a female/non-male role model in your life and have a conversation about them with their experience surrounding gender discrimination. Share out why they’re your role model! Time your showers to your favorite tune! Bring your shower time to under 5 minutes and try to use cool water. Share the song! Spend an average of 2 hours a day this week using a screen and share a screenshot as proof. For an added challenge, try going the entire day without screens! Youth Challenges

Welcome to the youth challenges for the #sdg2020challenge!  Here, you'll find a list and explanation for each challenge.   Collect three fun items that you’re willing to part with.  These items could be something like old board games, books, or toys.  Donate these items to the kindergarten at the local women and children’s shelter. Collect a non-perishable food item that you don’t need from your pantry.  With the help of someone at home, “food share” the item so that someone in need might have it.   Get outside!  You can go hiking or walking, spend some time meditating, or go cloud watching. If you want to try meditation, the Mindful Kids Youtube channel has free guided meditations.  Share a picture of something interesting you saw while you were outside!
